Summerhill Vets News -Animal Welfare Act.
- A suitable environment
- A suitable diet
- To be able to behave normally
- To be house with or apart from other animals (whichever is best)
- To be protected from pain suffering and disease
These five “rights” are part of the new animal welfare act which came into force recently. The aim of the Act is to reduce the incidence of suffering by prevention rather than cure. Legislation is in place to ensure that early intervention can reduce the suffering of all animals (not just farm animals)
The Act also contains new legislation on the tail docking of dogs.
