Eveswell Primary School Careers Fair

The Junior children at Eveswell Primary School invited parents and local business people to come in to their Careers Fair and tell them all about their work.

Summerhill Vets were delighted to attend along with the guinea pigs Honey, Gertie and Gordon.  The children asked lots of questions about how to look after guinea pigs.  They checked that the guinea pigs had bedding, a nice clean cage, dried food and fresh carrot to eat and water to drink and that they had a sheltered area to go and hide if they wanted to sleep.

They talked about their own pets and then got down to the serious business of practising caring for the toy cat, dog and rabbit.  The children dressed up in vet outfits and with plastic stethoscopes, syringes and thermometers carefully checked the toys over, bandaged broken limbs and put on buster collars to make sure those bandages stayed in place.

The children saw various objects that pets swallowed and looked at Xrays of broken bones and dog's tummies with nails and golf balls inside. They saw shed snakes skins and examined models of pet's teeth to see that pets could do with cleaning their teeth too!

The highlight was probably using the brand new real stethoscope, luckily everyone could hear their own hearts beating really well!
