Summerhill Vets News - Pet Blood Donors

For years, vets have been frustrated by not having access to blood products for transfusion. We humans have benefited from access to blood banks for years, but it used to be that vets would have to go out and find a donor when a patient was in need of a transfusion. It was usually a case of too little too late.

Well, a recent change in legislation means that blood products will soon be available to purchase and store on the veterinary premises. This is a huge benefit for all of our patients as it means we can give transfusions pretty much immediately. This will save lives. www.petbloodbank.org.uk is the first commercial animal blood bank in the UK.

In the mean time, SVC is still looking for potential blood donors that live close to the surgery. Please contact us if you think you pet may be of help.
