Pet of the Month April 2010 is Dexter, a cat with nine lives
A few months ago a little black cat was brought into the surgery following a road traffic accident.
No-one had seen what had happened or knew how he had been hurt. He was examined by our vets. He had a fractured jaw and swollen face so needed initially to be fed by a feeding tube as he was unable to eat due to his injuries.
The little black cat was nursed by one of our veterinary nurses, Mandy, who took him home so that he would get the extra care and loving attention he deserved.
Dexter, as he has now been named, has recovered from his traumatic ordeal. His jaw has mended and his appetite is improving. He had permanent damage to his left eye, the pupil remains fully dilated and he has no vision but he copes really well. He is such a strong little character that nothing phases him - he is a really lovely little cat.
Unfortunately, despite their best attempts the staff at Summerhill could not find out who Dexter belonged to. Our staff fundraise to treat cases such as this with their Skint Strays Fund, so because of their unstinting fundraising efforts, Dexter received all the treatment he needed and has been found a lovely new home.
Dexter has a fabulous new home, a new owner and a new best friend, a 7 year old little boy who loves him dearly. We are not sure who is more delighted with the outcome of this story, Dexter with his purrfect new home, or his new best friend!
