MICROCHIPPING FOR PEACE OF MIND

Summerhill Vets recommend microchipping your cat to significantly improve the chances of being reunited with your pet should it stray.  Many cats are kept as indoor pets these days but there is always the chance that they may escape through a slightly open window or a door left open while you carry something in from the car. Sudden noises or other cats can frighten pets that are not used to being outdoors causing them to panic, run off and lose their bearings.

Collars are not a reliable way to identify your cat as they can break and in some cases cause injury by snagging on branches.

Microchipping your pet gives your cat a unique identification number linked to a database containing your details.  Should your cat be brought into Summerhill as a lost or stray cat you can rest assured that the first thing we do is check with a scanner to see if there is a microchip.  We know how anxious owners can become if their pet is missing and we endeavour to reunite missing pets with their owners as quickly as possible.  If a microchip is detected then a phone call to the database holder will quickly identify the owner of the pet.

We hear so many stories about missing pets being found long distances away from their homes having jumped up under a vehicle’s bonnet or climbed into the back of a vehicle.

One of our vets recently lost her indoor pet cat which had managed to stray outdoors.  Logan was found in another part of Newport but having a microchip meant that his relieved and grateful owner was quickly traced.
